Scar Removal - Home Remedies for Scars

by Martha Fitzharris

A scar is an area of fibrous tissue that replaces normal skin tissue after the dermis has been destroyed. Its appearance resembles a pinkish or light-silver color that changes with time.

If you do have scars, any form of scar reduction can have positive results soon after the injury is sustained. This is done by keeping the area clean and by frequently monitoring it during the healing process. If done correctly this will greatly reduce the scar's appearance.

Scar removal creams are a blessing to any scar victim in search of a more friendly treatment. However, if the person is searching a more drastic treatment they may turn to surgical scar removal. In the case that surgical procedures are your choice, keep in mind that after the surgery you are recommended to use topical treatments to help the skin heal quickly.

Another scar removal procedure is known as dermabrasion. Deramabrasion is a procedure that involves controlled surgical sanding. This treatment is used to smooth fine lines and reduce most visible scars. But no matter which scar treatment you choose, all treatments are created to restore your skin to its original appearance.

Areas of high skin tension will usually show signs of abnormal scar healing. These areas are comprised of the upper back, front of the chest, shoulder. If a wound is recent, you should wait until it closes fully before applying any type of topical treatment.

Here is a short list of different types of scars:

*Keloid scars: Scars that are a result of an overly aggressive healing process.

*Contracture scars: Scars mostly seen on burn victims.

*Hypertrophic scars. These scars are raised and red scars that are similar to keloids, but do not breach the boundaries of the injury site.

*Acne scars: Scars that appear after a severe acne breakout.

Scar prevention and Treatment

There are several forms of scar prevention and treatment. Here we list only a few:
